Meet the Trainers

Trevor Boxer

Trevor Boxer – BSc, CEng, MIEE

Trevor held the post of Technical Director for a major fire alarm & emergency lighting equipment manufacturer for 20 years until 1998. Now an independent emergency lighting & fire detection safety consultant he was instrumental in originating, coordinating and presenting FIA Training courses.

A member of BSI committees – FSH12/1 (Fire Detection and Alarm Systems) and CPL34 (Emergency Lighting) – Trevor plays an important role in setting the industry standards. He is also Chairman of FIA Design, Installation & Commissioning Working Group 6.

 

Vic Dadd

Vic Dadd - I Eng MIIE

Vic joined the fire industry in 1974 as a service engineer and progressed take on management positions in product development, training, and technical support, working internationally on both fire and security systems.

He started with FIA as a trainer September 2002. Vic is a member of the Institution of Incorporated Engineers [MIIE] and associate member of FIA . He also is an active participant of FIA Fire Alarm Service and Maintenance Working Group 26.

 

David Yirrell

David Yirrell

Following an Electrical apprenticeship David went on to specialise in the installation and commissioning of all types of fire alarm systems spending four years as a Project Manager managing major fire alarm installations. He moved into design and sales of fire alarm systems and became System Sales Director for one of the UK’s largest independent fire protection companies. He joined FIA Trainer 2006 as a trainer.

 

Chris Watts

Chris Watts

Chris first trained as a battery systems engineer and then worked for 35 years in technical and marketing roles for major fire protection equipment suppliers. He is Chairman of a number of British, European and International Committees responsible for standards such as BS 526 (code of practice for emergency lighting) and IEC 60598-22 (emergency luminaire product standard).

Chris is now a safety consultant specialising in Fire Protection Systems and Risk Assessments joining the FIA team in 2006.

 

Phil Martin

Phil Martin

Phil entered the fire safety industry in the 1970’s. During his career he has worked for several high profile companies and has been involved in Fire Detection and Alarm, Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Lighting, Fire Safety Signs, Extinguishing Systems, Fire Risk Assessment and Fire Safety Training.


Phil has been a quality manager, internal auditor, project engineer, systems designer, surveyor, estimator, commissioning engineer, service engineer, service supervisor, fire risk assessor and trainer.  In these roles he has been responsible for several third party accreditation schemes, commercial and technical training of sales and engineering staff and writing technical support material.

 

Angus Stone

Angus Stone

A chartered engineer and member of the IET with over 25 years design experience of fire detection and emergency lighting products. Chairman of FSH12/3 and CEN /TC72/WG17 and a member of FSH12, CEN /TC72/WG7 & WG2 and other electro-technical standards committees. Angus has worked in senior management positions for the last 20 years and currently is running his own engineering consultancy business.

 

Joe Lewis-Warren

 

Joe Lewis-Warren

Joe is recognised as one of the foremost experts in BS 5306-3 and -8 and in his many years experience in the field of fire safety, portable fire extinguishers and fire protection of petrol forecourts.

He has written many courses on the subject of fire safety for a diverse range of organisations from multi-national and Blue Chip companies to brigades, charitable organisations and trade associations.

Joe also acts as invigilator on the examinations overseen by BAFE .

Jordan Lewis-Warren

With a previous background in the I.T. industry, Jordan has now been working with his father, Joe Lewis-Warren, for three years. After being mentored on fire safety training by his father, Jordan is now running a large majority of the fire extinguisher maintenance courses in the UK for the FIA . Thanks to a strong father and son work ethic, Jordan has mirrored Joe’s training style and knowledge, providing a seamless link between the two trainers and as a result continues to deliver the same unparalleled training as Joe.

 

 

Simon Lawrence

Simon Lawrence

Simon joined the FIA team in 2010 but has worked in the fire & security industry since 1985, in roles including Designer; Technical Manager; Projects Manager and Commercial Manager based in the UK for FD&A companies; and abroad with Architectural / Engineering companies on major construction projects. Since 2000, Simon has been providing independent quality management and technical support to the Fire and Security Industry with particular focus on Change Management and Accreditation Schemes ( BAFE SP203, BAFE SP101, ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO18001). Simon is an experienced lead auditor in security and FD&A systems both independently and for Third Party Accreditation organisations. 

 

 Keith Goodall

Keith Goodall

Keith is a Chartered Engineer who has worked in fire protection most of his working life. He has a wide range of experience which spans engineering, marketing and commercial activities with some of the major fire protection companies. A consistent theme has been his involvement with the BFPSA / FIA , the Standards organisations and the environment legislation of the Montreal and Kyoto Protocols. His specialisation has been with fire extinguishing products and systems.

Graham Simons 

Graham joined the FIA Technical Team in February 2011 as a specialist in FD&Aqueries as well as acting a Secretary to the FD&ACouncil. Prior to joining, he worked for 12 years at Honeywell Life Safety as Regulatory Manager, where he also sat on various technical committees including Euralarm,BSIFSH12 andISOTC21 Standards.
